‘Master Craftsman’ Raj Kumar
Raj Kumar, now 20, is the most loved child at Street Smart! He works with concentration and pride; he loves being ‘big brother’ and teaching the little ones.
It took a year of care, counselling and ‘tough love’ to start breaking the stranglehold drugs had on him; so a year after being at Street Smart, Rajkumar started toslowly and steadily learnt the alphabet and addition and subtraction. Now, in his third year with us, he is acquiring computer skills. He has grasped the finer nuances of block-printing and excelling as the best craftsman in block printing was recently promoted to the post of ‘Supervisor’.
This appointment has made Raj Kumar even more responsible and earnest and helped him to wean himself away from whitener fluid completely.
His battle with alcohol is still not over. But for ten days while his sister was in hospital he was a loving night nurse. On time, caring and sober. One day at a time!
